*Please note this is not a complete list of septic systems. There are many types to fit whatever your needs are. This is a list of common types of septic tanks. For more information about alternative tanks, please go to www.epa.gov/septic/types-septic-systems or call us today!
- Septic Tanks – A septic tank is a buried, watertight tank designated and constructed to receive and partially treat raw domestic sanitary wastewater
- Conventional System – A conventional decentralized wastewater treatment system consists of a septic tank and a trench or bed subsurface wastewater infiltration system, known as a drain field.
- Chamber System – he chamber system serves as an alternative design to the gravel/stone system. The primary advantage of the chamber system is increased ease of delivery and construction.
- Have the septic tank cleaned before sludge or scum accumulates to the bottom of the tank’s outlet device (about every 3 to 5 years). If too much sludge accumulates, solids will leave the tank with the liquid and possibly clog the soil. Sewage will then surface or back up into the house through the plumbing fixtures.
- During a proper septic pumping service your technician will pump the entire septic tank down. Once he is done pumping he will check the inlet and outlet tees to the tank to ensure they are still intact and working properly. He will also check the bacteria count and the tank levels. At the end, he will ask you to flush your toilets so he can make sure everything is flowing back properly. Once the service is done he will cover the lid back up and give you a full detailed service report.
- Ignoring your septic system. Schedule regular septic pumping service and stay ahead of any potential issues. This is the best way to prolong the life of your septic system.
- The most inexpensive way to maintain your septic system is to cut down on your water usage throughout the house, don’t throw anything down the toilets, sinks or drains that shouldn’t be in the septic system, and try to use more environmentally friendly cleaning products and less harsh chemicals.
- First call your septic company and have them perform a proper septic inspection. A licensed inspector is the only one who can say that your system is failing. There could be minor or major repairs depending on the reason why the system has failed.
